Days is done, gone the sun

The big news from yesterday is: JD can write his name legibly! His color page at school has his name written across the top spelled correctly and legibly. I suspect his teacher was sitting with him telling him which letter to write next but he still wrote it. We made a big deal out of it and I put it in his scrapbook.

Yesterday we did go shopping for school supplies and uniforms. We got everything on the list without any problems. Although there was a slightly disturbing lack of any paper on the list... no construction paper, no printer paper, no handwriting paper. If the teacher will ever call me (I'm actually really disgruntled that I haven't gotten a call yet. I wanted a call last month) I intend to make sure nothing was left off the list. I already had a few things like the mat. We got a hand-me-down mat from his 13 year old cousin. I also had MawMaw embroider JD's name on a towel for the summer and they need a towel for a blanket at school.

We also picked up school uniforms. They only had 4 shirts in JD's size, so I grabbed all of them. Ideally I would like 6 shirts total. One for each day and one for his emergency clothes we leave at school. I bought 3 pairs of short and 3 pairs of pants with this in mind as well. The weather is so unpredictable here, I figure we might be able to get away with this ratio. I also picked up two more packs of socks that turned out to be way to big. I already got him a jacket when they were on sale last spring.

So I think we are ready for school! His back pack is adorable even if it is still a little on the big side. JD wanted to use his new markers as soon as we got home too.

During all this JD wanted to go to the store to buy a toy. We were talking about toys and how there is no such thing as "girl toys" and "boy toys". I was telling him boys can play with dolls and girls can play with robots, etc... JD responded with a very serious, "I don't know about that." Hilarious. We have decided to start referring to the toys marketed to girls as "pink toys" since there are 2-3 toy aisles at the store that are overwhelmingly pink.

Last night's special talk time discussion was about cooking food for our friends. In a new development, JD no longer wants a night light on at night. This past week he has turned the night light off before bed. Some of our discussions prompted by the new book have to do with the night time, being scared, why it gets dark, etc... so I'm not sure if this has played a factor or not. Mommy and Daddy prefer a dark house so hopefully this is something that will continue.
